A trading journal built around prop firm rules.
Prop firm accounts rarely fail because of one bad idea. They fail on a rule: a daily loss limit hit by one trade too many, or a trailing drawdown that moved up faster than the trader noticed. SteadyPnL is built to stop that.
SteadyPnL is a trading journal and risk tracker for traders on prop firm evaluations and funded accounts. It turns your firm's rules into one number each session, the most you can lose today without breaking a rule, and keeps it current as you log or import trades. It does not give trading signals.
Why prop traders need a different journal
A general trading journal looks back: charts, win rate, best setups. That is useful, but on a prop account the question that decides whether you keep the account comes before the trade: how much room is left today?
The answer depends on rules that interact. A daily loss limit resets every trading day. A trailing drawdown follows your highest balance up and never comes back down, until it stops at a level your firm sets. Evaluations add a profit target, sometimes a consistency rule, minimum trading days and a maximum number of contracts. Working that out by hand at 9:35 in the morning is how accounts are lost.
What SteadyPnL does
- One number per account, every session: the smaller of what is left of your daily loss limit and how far your balance is above the drawdown line. It updates after every trade you log or import. How the number is calculated.
- Your firm's rules, per account: end-of-day trailing, intraday trailing or static drawdown, the level where trailing stops, daily loss limit, profit target, consistency, minimum days and maximum contracts.
- A size check: how many contracts fit today at your usual stop, capped at your firm's maximum. Arithmetic from your own rules, not a recommendation.
- Every account from every firm in one place, evaluations and funded accounts side by side.
- Trades in by file or by hand: import a file from Tradovate, TopstepX, NinjaTrader, Rithmic, MetaTrader 4/5, Quantower, Sierra Chart or any CSV, or log a trade by hand in about 20 seconds. Hand-logged trades are matched with a later import, never counted twice. How to export your trades.
- New York time everywhere, like the futures market. A trading day resets at 18:00 ET.
- A daily habit: a 30-second check-in before the session, a two-minute close of the day after it, and a streak that counts the days you closed.
- A weekly review of your own patterns, written by AI from your trades, tags and notes: what worked, what cost you, and one focus for next week.
How it specialises
| Focus | SteadyPnL |
|---|---|
| Main question | How much can I lose today without breaking a rule? |
| When it helps | Before and during the session, not only afterwards |
| Accounts | Several accounts from several firms, each with its own rules |
| Accounts already running | Start mid-evaluation from today's balance and highest balance, so the line is right from day one |
| Time | Everything in New York time, files from other zones converted on import |
| Advice | None. It does arithmetic on your rules and reviews your own habits |

Who it is for, and who it is not for
For futures traders on evaluations and funded accounts at firms such as Topstep, Apex, Tradeify, Lucid, MyFundedFutures and Take Profit Trader, and forex or CFD traders at firms such as FTMO, The5ers and FundedNext. The size check works in futures contracts today; forex lots are planned.
Not for traders looking for signals, trade copying, automated trading or a live broker connection. SteadyPnL works from the trades you import or log.
How it works in three steps
- Set up your account (about three minutes). Pick your firm, stage and account size, check the rules, and say where the account stands today.
- Bring in your trades. Import a file after the session, log trades by hand during it, or both.
- Follow the number. Check it before you trade, size with it, and close the day when it says stop.
